Game Brainstorm

Platform Game

I'm not a frequent player of many games so finding out the names of different game genres came in use to be able to describe my potential ideas more. A game which stands out to me is the iconic Mario Games, when I was younger and played online, platform games were very popular. I played lots of variations and would look forward to new releases to play with my younger brother on websites such as "Miniclip" and "Nitrome"

I think that it would be fun to do something college related that's a platform game for example "Meeting a Deadline" where the player would be a student and the end goal is the assignment deadline. There would be obstacles such as balancing work, social life, and other assignments thus making it more difficult to reach your end goal. Too real? Maybe but it's just an idea and I could swap in different obstacles but it was the first thing that came into my head that felt relate-able.

Fantasy Role Playing

Although I don't play many games, I am interested in the fantasy genre animes and in some cases, these fantasy shows are originally based on a game such as "Fate/Stay Night".  I like the concept of these games as they not only require to fulfill a task/mission to progress in the game, they also have a plot/story to tell which interests the player to continue on in order to find out the rest of the story line. I have not personally played this game however I have watched the show that was inspired by it and thought it was really interesting.

What interests me the most when it comes to these games are the actual graphics associated with them. I really enjoy art and the graphic design aspect of games. I'm not too well informed in the realm of popular game plots but I do have ideas and story lines both in my head and written out which I have done previously out of my own interest. I'd like to implement these ideas into a game.

MMORPG

Whilst watching the anime "Sword Art Online" It's unique story line of a massive amount of players being sucked into an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game)  peaked my interest. When I was younger I played online virtual worlds such as "Club Penguin" and "Fantage" which I spent countless hours upon. The anime's game was similar to this so I went onto the internet to see if I could find something similar that was targeted towards an older age audience. I stumbled upon "DOFUS" which is an MMORPG, I played this for a while and thoroughly enjoyed it as I could customize my character and interact with others who played this game whilst leveling up my character and completing missions. This would indefinitely be a very difficult game to mimic but if I could attempt a super and i mean SUPER simplified version, I'd be very proud of myself

Shooter Game

Lot's of these games inevitably dominate the Market. Fortnite being one that rose to popularity very quickly and others such as COD. I know that games based on World War are already existent but it would be interesting to attempt something that is based on a true story in other countries that have a plot line as well. So that the player would be able to both be reeled in by not only the game play but by the history of it as well.

  1. Hiiii Stef! Thanks for your comment on my introduction. I'm glad you enjoyed the photo of my ginger cat.

I recommend you have an actual look at the Fate games. The anime might be good, but the games are sadly lacking. The first one came out in 2007, I think, and it was a general disaster. They quickly made a sequel to it in 2008ish, but that didn't help it much. They made a mobile game not too long ago, I think it was in 2015 in Japan? Took them sometime to even bring it to english language. So maybe you should have a look at the mobile version, at least for the inspirational graphics and art.

I like your four ideas. MMORPG is extremely ambitious, and while I like the idea, don't think it's quite possible to make in such amount of time. For the shooter game though, there are a good few wars that you could work with.
    Good luck!

  2. Hi Stephanie
I really like this blog post a lot! I love your idea about a game based on college life as we all know how much of a struggle it can be!! I think that is really creative and different. Can't wait to see you develop on your one of your ideas. I also like the idea of a shooter game. Whichever one you pick I'm sure it will be great!

  3. Hey Stephanie:) I enjoyed reading this blog post, I'm not really a gamer myself so I understand where you're coming from. The Mario games are a great source of inspiration I spent most of my childhood playing different versions of them so I think that'd be a great idea to base it off. I think the fantasy role-playing game idea sounds really interesting it's the first one I've come across on these blogs! Can't wait to see which one you choose to develop!

  5. Hi Stephanie really enjoyed reading your game ideas and I think all of the ideas are really good and I can really visualize playing all of those types of games. Personally my favorite idea is the third idea the MMORPG idea. I also loved these sorts of games as a kid especially club penguin, my friends and I would spend hours online playing this game. Also the likes of fortnight my brother will spend most of his days playing online with his friends from school. These sort of games are highly addictive amd entertaining. I feel like if you could be very successful if you were to create your own version of these sort of games! Can’t wait to see what type of game you decide to do!

  8. Hi Stephanie, Great ideas! I like the college themed game, it would be very relatable plus it sounds fun :) They're also very addictive, I think games either have to be very simplistic or very detailed to be good, and the college game has a simple concept and still sounds like a lot of fun.
Look forward to seeing where you go from here :) Good luck :)

  9. Hey Stephanie!
I think your platform game idea would be the best game to develop. In my opinion, it would be a lot easier to create compared to the other games you have brainstormed. I noticed there's plenty of tutorials on about platforming games on Youtube. Making the game related to college would be a great idea. Good luck with developing your game. Overall you have some cool game ideas, Id love to try your finished game at the end.

  10. Hey Steph!

I really like the idea of your game. As Conor has said, a platform game would be the best approach for you. The concept of your game also is very relatable and I feel like I would definitely enjoy playing it. Another reason why I feel I would really like this game comes from my love for any Mario game, especially Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo DS. Can`t wait to see how your game develops. Good luck!
